The Spituk Monastery is a Buddhist Monastery located 8 km from Leh, which is also referred to as Spituk Gompa. One of India's brightest monasteries is home to 100 monks with an enormous statue of Kali, presented each year at the Gustor Festival. It is renowned for its collection of Buddhist antique arms, icons, masks and many Thangka paintings.

Spituk Monastery, known by the people in the region as the Pethup Gompa, was created in the 11th Century by Od-de, Lha Lama's elder brother Changchub Od. The Arhat Nyimagung blessed the site. When Lotsewa Rinchen Zangpo (Translator) came there he said that there would emerge an exemplary religious community, so the monastery was called Spituk. Spituk Monastery is frequently visited by tourists around the globe, with its commanding view of the Valley of Indus and the surrounding beauty.
