The Shakado is the main structure of Daijokyo Buddhist Temple, which was built in 1983. The Eternal Shakyamuni Buddha, Visistacaritra, Anantacaritra, Visuddhacaritra, and Supratisthitacaritra are all enshrined in the Main Hall on the first floor. The three-story pagoda atop the rooftop has Reliquary Hall (third floor), which holds sacred Buddha relics, and Founder's Hall (second floor), which houses a bronze bust of Daijokyo's founder, the Most Rev. Tatsuko Sugiyama.

Bodhgaya, the site of Buddha's enlightenment (Sakyamuni's achievement of Buddhahood under the Bodhi Tree), is one of Buddhism's holiest sites, with temples built by Buddhist countries all over the world. Daijokyo founded the Shakado as a member of this world Buddhist circle in order to contribute to the success of Bodhgaya and to remove the obstacles of differences in tradition and culture.
