The Wards Lake is one of the major tourist attractions in the capital city of Shillong in the state of Meghalaya. Shillong, often referred as the ‘Scotland of the East’, is the dwelling place of the clouds as the city is surrounded by the hills covered with scenic lush green plants and trees. In this beautiful city, the Wards Lake is among the most visited places, both, by tourists and local residents.

The lake is situated in the center of the city and is surrounded by beautiful lush garden, making it a traveler’s delight for enjoying boating and nature’s walk. The lake was constructed artificially in the year 1894 and is also known as ‘Pollock’s Lake’. This more than 100 year old lake, is a must visit site while travelling to the north-eastern tourist places in India.

An elegant white bridge built in the middle of the lake is a striking feature of the Wards Lake. The waters of the lake serves as a natural habitat to a large number of fishes and charismatic lotus plants, giving the lake a natural charm. There is a Botanical Garden which is located nearby providing an opportunity to witness quite a lot of orchids and floral varieties of plants.
