Shimla-the capital city of Himachal Pradesh in India is a hill station in the lap of Shivalik ranges of the Himalayas. And, the most captivating part of Shimla tour, is the Toy Train Ride from Kalka to Shimla. This magical Toy Train Ride covers a distance of 96 kms from Kalka to Shimla.

Bordered by the beautiful Shivalik ranges on both sides, the train starts climbing uphill to go through 103 tunnels, 919 curves, 969 bridges and 20 railway stations. The rail journey begins from Kalka at 640 meters to reach Shimla at 2060 meters in five hours. And, it is because of this height, the speed of the train is not more than 20 to 25 km per hour.

The major halt is of 15 minutes at Barog station. Passengers here get down and can have refreshments at a restaurant which is very popular among the tourists. The slow and steady movement enables the passengers to completely soak themselves in the spellbinding natural scenery, particularly at Koti, Kushalya river, Jabli, Kanoh and Barog.

Due to its splendid and matchless features, this railway was declared as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 2008. Both, normal and luxury coaches are available. Himalayan queen is the normal chair car train whereas Shivalik queen is the luxury coach.
