The Roman Catholic St. Philomena's Church is considered among the oldest existing churches in India. Built in AD 1840, this 200-year church in Mysore, Karnataka is built in gothic design and its twin towers soar to a height of 175 feet. The church is believed to resemble a church at Cologne and its design shares similarity with the St. Patrick’s cathedral at New York.

Located just 1 km off Mysurue Palace, the foundation for the St. Philomena's Church was laid by Mysuru Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV laid the foundation and a French architect gave its design. In terms of design and architecture, this church is considered perhaps the most beautiful in the whole of Karnataka. The church houses the bone, cloths and statue of the popular and holy 3rd-century Greece saint, St.Philomina.

Before the St. Philomena's Church, the place had a small church till some 250 years ago. But when the number of British officers and soldiers grew in the area (in the wake of the shifting of the capital of Mysore state from Srirangapatnam to Mysore city in 1799), the need felt for a bigger church and this happened. A visit to this church is a great way to revisit the glorious past of the region.
