Located stoically in the placid vicinity of Indraprastha, Purana Qila or the Old Fort is one of the oldest forts in Delhi, a marvel of the ancient glory and exquisite architecture of the bygone Mughal Empire. Built on the banks of the Yamuna River and spread over a wide area of 1.5 kms, the monument has plenty of medieval-era myths and legends attached. The most important of which indicates that the Hindu religion- Indraprastha historical city was founded here by Pandavas and the fort was the famous assembly hall mentioned in the epic Mahabharat. The king Humayun is also thought to have met his end by tumbling down the steps of his library inside the fort. The colossal citadel is protected by three entrances and a moat, which is now used for boating.
