The Pookot Lake located in the Wayanad district of Kerala, is the most adored tourist destinations, particularly among the nature-lovers. This lake is a natural freshwater lake surrounded with lush evergreen forests and mountains lying at an elevation of 770 meters above the sea level.

The lake spreads over an area of 8.5 hectares with 6.5 meters as its maximum depth and lies 3 km to the south of Vythri town.The weather at the lake is extremely pleasant with mesmerizing scenic beauty of the Western Ghats all around.

A well maintained walking path all around the lake provides an exquisite opportunity to the visitors to go for a breathtaking walk in the lap of nature. There is also a children’s park and a fresh water aquarium nearby, having unique and beautiful varieties of fishes. Blue lotus and water lily can be found in abundance in the lake.

Within the lake premises, shops on boats called ‘Uruvu’ can be found selling spices and handicrafts. The tourists department also provides boating and water cycling facilities here. All these features makes Pookot a distinct lake in the entire state of Kerala and the most visited sightseeing spot in Wayanad district.

Pookot Lake can be reached via road through NH 212 from Kozhikode which is 60 kms away. The nearest railway station is also Kozhikode. The closest airport is Calicut International Airport.
