The Periyar Tiger Reserve, in Thekkady in Kerala is one of the most visited and popular wildlife sanctuaries in India. It is one of the 48 protected Tiger Reserves in India and, is an ideal example of well-guarded and fervently preserved natural treasures. Spread over an area of 777 sq. kms, this reserve is a traveler’s delight, as it presents enchanting scenic beauty and exquisite natural abundance in form of rich and prospering bio-diversity.

Watching one of the vanishing and highly precious species-‘tigers’, in its natural habitat is a major attraction for visiting Periyar. The Forest Department of Kerala skillfully offers tourist program known as ‘Periyar Tiger Trail’, giving the visitors a unique and exciting opportunity to watch the wildlife very closely, while in the lap of nature. There are two types of packages offered- three days and two nights or two days and one night.

Usually an area of 35 kms is covered under both the packages along with local experts and guards, and, involves trekking in the forests to watch a large variety of wild animals like Tigers, Elephants, Nilgirilangur, Bison, Leopards, Wild Dogs etc.…These programs are extremely popular among both, Indian and foreign tourists. Travelers, who are aged between 15-65 and medically fit are advised to go for the Tiger Trail.
