The famous Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary located on the bank of the Vembanad lake of Kumarakom, Kerala. The sanctuary, which spreads across 14 acres of area and managed by Kerala Tourist Development Corporation, is an ideal place for watch Siberian stork, teal, egret, darter and heron. A delight for bird watchers, a visit here means you can also watch local birds like the cuckoo, owl, egret, heron, waterfowl and duck.

Monsoon is the best time to visit Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. This is the period when you can watch many varieties of birds here. Tourists here can also hire a motorboat to watch different species of the birds on the lake. This place is 15 Km from the nearest railway station in Kottayam, Kerala, so reaching here is not, and never a problem for bird lovers. 

More so, visitors to Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary can also enjoy the interpretation center which offers photo gallery of birds visiting this sanctuary for long. The sanctuary is best visited between the month of July and August. This is the ideal time to watch the many birds like Siberian crane, Parrot, teal, lark and flycatcher. Mind you, an entry fee of Rs 50 is charged here, so be prepared for that.
