Auroville (City of Dawn) is an experimental township in Viluppuram district Tamil Nadu. Some parts of this unique township also fall in the Union Territory of Puducherry in South India. This place was set up with the purpose to create a universal town where people from all parts of the world can live in peace and harmony. It was found to encourage human unity.

Auroville City came into being in 1968 and all its credit goes to MirraAlfassa who conceptualized the town while architect Roger Anger got it designed. It’s a place where people rise above nationalities and creeds and live with the ethos of an international community. Above all, it’s a non-religious and cash-free township open to anyone with idealistic leanings and the message of love.

Presently, Auroville City is home to some 2500-odd residents of 52 nationalities live amicably and spread the ethos of community living. The township is also responsible for running a wide variety of projects, from schools to organic farming. It also engages local villagers in some of its projects and generates employment prospects for them. You can visit this place and get a peace into community living of global variety.
